June 2006 - CORPUS DOMINI IN ORVIETO

On June 17th and 18th, 2006 the annual celebrations of Corpus Domini took place in various places. Some towns place elaborate patterns of flower petals on the streets for the processions. Orvieto, where the celebration of the miracle began, has two days of medieval Corteo storico surrounding the religious ceremonies.

When Peter of Prague was returning from his pilgrimage to Rome to reaffirm his faith, he stopped in the nearby town of Bolsena and while partaking in a Mass, the host 'bled' on the altar cloth. The Pope meanwhile, taking refuge in Orvieto, ordered the cloth to be brought to Orvieto where it remains in the Capella dei Corpori in the Duomo.The Feast of Corpus Domini was declared by Pope Urban IV the following year in 1264.

Giugno 2006 - CORPUS DOMINI A ORVIETO

I 17 e 18 Giugno 2006, si sono svolte le celebrazioni annuali di Corpus Domini nei vari luoghi. In qualche paese vengono decorate le strade dove sfilerà la processione, con disegni complicati dalle petalli di fiori.

Quando ritornò dal suo pellegrinaggio da Roma per riaffermare la sua fede, Peter di Praga si fermò a Bolsena. Durante la Messa vide l’ostia sanguinare sul lino dell’ altare. Il Papa nel frattempo, ordinò che il lino fosse portato a Orvieto, dove rimase fino ad oggi nella Cappella dei Corpori del Duomo. La Festa del Corpus Domini fu dichiarato l’anno dopo, 1264.

Orvieto ha due giorni di Corteo Storico Medievale. per le ceremonie religiosi.
