Americans in MonteCastello di Vibio

To celebrate the Liberation by the Allies, in June 1944, Monte Castello saw the arrival of a platoon of 60 military vehicles and 200 soldiers, re-evoking the arrival of the Allied troops towards the end of the Second World War.

This event was organised by Gotica Toscana Onlus, as part of the 63rd anniversary celebrations, starting from Rome the previous day, with stops arranged in various locations through Lazio, Umbria, Tuscany and Emilia Romagna, and finishing the following week at the River Po.

For the older inhabitants of Monte Castello, this was a moment to relive the past and recall the arrival, in June 1944, of the Allied troops, who camped under the walls of Viale Dante Alighieri, 15 days after the liberation of Rome, and to remember the subsequent celebrations.

Americani in MONTECASTELLO DI VIBIO

MONTECASTELLO DI VIBIO ha veduto l'arrivo di una colonna di 60 mezzi militari della seconda guerra mondiale e 200 soldati in divisa storica, che hanno attraversato il paese per rievocare il giugno 1944.

Questa era una manifestazione storico-rievocativa della II Guerra Mondiale denominanta "La Colonna della Liberta' 2008". Ideata dall'associazione culturale Gotica Toscana Onlus di Scarperia, legati alle celebrazioni del 63 anniversario della Liberazione, partendo da Roma il 19 aprile, facendo tappa nelle piu' significative localita' di Lazio, Umbria, Toscana ed Emilia Romagna, concludendosi infine lungo il fiume Po presso Sermide il 27 aprile.

Per gli abitanti del luogo piu' anziani e' stato come fare un salto all'indietro e rivivere l'arrivo in paese, nel giugno 1944, (15 giorni dopo la liberazione di Roma) del contingente militare, che si accampo' lungo le mura medievali di viale Dante Alighieri - e la festa che ne segui.
